ANTONIO VERGAMINI was born in Bergamo in 1967
Antonio
attended the convent elementary school of the Suore Orsoline in Bergamo and already at
the age of 7 performed his role admirably as sandwich-man for their end of
school year show. But in spite of his extraordinary success both with the
critics and the public, he left the world of show business to take up other
jobs such as waiter, dental technician's
assistant, door-to-door salesman, billposter, and, unfortunately, banker for 6
years. This last experience and his meeting with Daniele Finzi Pasca convinced
him to return to the theatre.
Antonio Vergamini joined Teatro Sunil in 1994. During those
years, he worked as an actor, writer, and/or director on ten theatrical
productions, including the play Visitatio, which was written and
directed by Daniele Finzi Pasca and co-produced by Teatro Sunil and Montreal’s Carbone 14. He
also co-wrote Tres Tristes Tangos and performed with Maria Bonzanigo and
Hugo Gargiulo. These plays have been performed in: Italy, Switzerland, France,
Brazil, Austria, Uruguay,
Spain, Mexico, Costarica,
Canada, Bolivia, Perù, Portugal, Chile.
In 2005, Antonio became
acting designer for Cirque du Soleil’s “Corteo”, and he was part of the
creative group for the closing ceremonies of the 2006 Torino Olympics. In particular he
was responsible for the carnival court
and rose-seller scenes and
participated in the global conception of the show.
In 2006, he wrote, directed, and acted in five short films co-produced
by Swiss Television.
In 2008 he wrote
and directed the 50 minutes documentary “Ana”, also co-produced by Swiss
Television (“Emilio Lopez Award”
for Best Experimental Documentary in Festival del Documentario d’Abruzzo
2009).
He is the author
and director of “Opéra Mobile” and in 2010 he will direct the show “Salto &
Mortale”, produced by Théâtre Frenesì and Les Baladins and co-produced by Centre
Culturel Neuchâtelois.
He is actually
working as director of creation of “Donka”,
written and directed by Daniele Finzi Pasca, a coproduction of Teatro Sunil and
Chekhov Festival in Moscow.
Antonio lives in Porlezza, where he founded the
Longuel cultural association. He has been directing and coordinating theatre
courses in Switzerland
and abroad since 1998.
